A magnificent array of pelagic bird species can be found behind any fishing vessel out at sea.

These fishing trollers are known as long liners – or longline fishing vessels. This is a very old commercial fishing technique that uses a long fishing line, called the main line, which has a long string of pre-baited hooks attached to it in intervals. This will drag behind the boat, waiting for the larger fish species to bite, usually these are hake in our Southern Cape Waters.
